RFM4 SIGNAL MONITOR

RFM 4 - RADIO FREQUENCY SIGNAL MONITOR.
Catalogue card:

RFM4 - indispensable tool for every installer

RF (Radio Frequency) Signal Monitor is a gauge designed to indicate the level of radio signals received by Elmes Electronic receivers, helping find optimal operating range of transmitter–receiver sets. It indicates also the level of local 433,92MHz band radio signals that interfere with Elmes Electronic transmitters reducing their operating range.

Installation: Set the RFM4 receiver type jumper to select appropriate receiver used in test: SR if superregenerative receiver is used (with tune coil protected by red coating), SH1 if superheterodyne receiver is used with Philips UAA3210 chip (used untill 2008) or, SH2 if superheterodyne receiver is used with Infineon TDA5220 chip (used from 2008).  Next, power the RFM4 by inserting its power pins to receiver’s +/- power supply terminals and connect measuring clip to receiver’s test terminal point marked VP or VP1 – depending on receiver type used, as on photo below.

RF level testing:  trigger RF signalling from transmitters in their predicted installation places while watching LED indication of the RFM4 gauge connected to receiver in its desired installation place.  The more RFM4 LEDs shine on the higher signal level and better RF-link connection quality. The red LED indicates power on only. All LEDs shine on guarantee best RF-link connection of the receiver – transmitter set. Connection is not satisfactory if only the yellow LEDs shine on. In that case, a new installation places should be found or operating range reduced to improve RF-connection link. If RFM4 LEDs shine on even without Elmes Electronic transmitters use, it means that other transmitters are used locally in the same 433,92MHz band and may interfere with wireless system under construction thus reducing its operation range and reliability.

Notice! While in test with the use of superheterodyne receiver (jumper set to SH2) the RFM4 detects modulated AM, FM as well as RF carrier signals. When in use with the superregenerative  (jupmper set to SR) or older superheterodyne receivers (jumper set to SH1), the RFM4 monitor detects AM signals only.

  • designed for visualising level of transmitted radio signals as received by Elmes Electronic wireless control receivers,
  • seven LED indicators enable the installer easy evaluation of operating range,
  • may be used with any Elmes 434,92MHz receiver,
  • simple fitting.
